5 New Period Dramas

Period Dramas are my absolute favourite thing to watch and there are many recent ones which I want to watch. I only recently discovered that Amazon Prime America has a PBS Masterpiece Channel, but as I live in Canada unfortunately it’s not offered. But here’s hoping Amazon Prime Canada will catch on because I’d definitely subscribe! Here are five new period dramas that are on my watchlist.

Beecham House which aired in 2019 is set in 19th century Delhi, India. I don’t know much more about it, but I hope to watch it!

Poldark Season 5

I love Poldark! I’ve watched all four seasons and can’t wait to watch the final season. The dynamic between the characters is fabulous, especially between Demelza and Ross, and of course George is a wonderful, infuriating antagonist.

Belgravia is originally a historical fiction novel by Julian Fellows, the creator of Downton Abbey (which if you haven’t seen–this is certainly a series to watch!) I loved Downton Abbey and am eagerly awaiting his next series.

Sanditon is an adaption of Jane Austen’s unfinished book by the same name. I have this on order at my library and when the library opens again I’m down for watching it!

World On Fire is a BBC World War Two Drama set in Poland, France, and Germany. The first season is out, and there is talk of a second season. I loved X-Company so much and am looking forward to this drama set in the same time period.

  1. I’ve reviewed all of these! Poldark was brilliant. Belgravia wasn’t bad at all, much better than the book. Beecham House wasn’t brilliant, but improved as it went on. World on Fire again started slowly, but turned out pretty well. Sanditon was strange … I don’t know what they thought they were doing, but I don’t think a lot of men running about stark naked was quite what Jane Austen had in mind 🙂 .
